In the latest tech update, Advanced Micro Devices(AMD) announced its latest artificial intelligence processors on Monday. It detailed its strategy to create AI chips over the next two years to compete with industry leader Nvidia, opening a new tab. At the Computex technology trade show in Taipei, AMD CEO Lisa Su revealed the MI325X accelerator, which will be available in the fourth quarter of 2024.
The rush to develop generative artificial intelligence programs has resulted in a surge in demand for powerful CPUs that can support these complicated applications in AI data centers. When asked about her organization’s focus on AI, Su replied: “AI is our number one priority, and we’re at the beginning of an inspiring time for the industry as AI transforms virtually every business, improves our quality of life, and reshapes every part of the computing market”.
AMD’s announcement comes just after Nvidia, the industry leader, introduced new chipsets. The Jensen Huang-led business revealed a new ‘Rubin’ brand of AI chipsets to replace the ‘Blackwell’ model released earlier this year. When discussing AMD’s new chipsets, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella stated, “We are in the midst of a massive AI platform shift, with the promise to transform how we live and work… That’s why our deep partnership with AMD, which has spanned multiple computing platforms, from the PC to custom silicon for Xbox, and now to AI, is so important to us.”
The newly announced Ryzen AI 300 series will be available in select Copilot Plus PCs starting in July, including the Asus Vivobook S15 and HP OmniBook.
