Walldorf, Germany – June 7, 2024 – In a move to enhance customer experience and drive business transformation, enterprise software giant SAP announced today its acquisition of WalkMe, a leading provider of digital adoption platforms (DAPs). The all-cash deal is valued at $1.5 billion, with WalkMe shareholders receiving $14 per share, a significant premium over the company’s pre-acquisition closing price SAP Announces Acquisition of WalkMe.
WalkMe’s platform offers on-screen guidance and automation features, helping users navigate complex software applications seamlessly. This capability aligns with SAP’s focus on empowering users to get the most out of their technology investments.
“Applications, processes, data, and people are the four key elements of a successful business transformation,” said Christian Klein, CEO of SAP. “By acquiring WalkMe, we are doubling down on the support we provide our end users, helping them to quickly adopt new solutions and features to get the maximum value out of their IT investments.”
The acquisition is expected to close in the third quarter of 2024, subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals. WalkMe will continue to support non-SAP applications, while also integrating its upcoming WalkMeX copilot technology with SAP’s Joule copilot solution. This combined offering will leverage artificial intelligence (AI) to suggest optimal workflow steps, further boosting user productivity.
Analysts see the acquisition as a strategic move for SAP. “This deal complements SAP’s existing Business Transformation Management portfolio and positions them to be a one-stop shop for companies undergoing digital transformations,” said industry analyst Sarah Jones SAP Business Transformation Management portfolio. “WalkMe’s expertise in user adoption, coupled with SAP’s extensive software ecosystem, creates a powerful value proposition for customers.”
With the acquisition of WalkMe, SAP underscores its commitment to providing user-centric solutions that empower businesses to achieve their strategic goals.
